Santa Baby

Christmas is this week? Seriously I can't believe time has slipped by so fast these past few months. We've shopped, been sick, been sleepless, gone to parties, tried new eateries, learned new words, met Santa, driven around looking at festive lights, had hot chocolate, made butternut squash soup and rosemary/garlic bread, visited with family, sent out holiday cards, gotten haircuts, and done a hefty amount of late-night online shopping. Oh, and Husband broke his foot. (He's almost as good as new now, thanks for wondering.)
The Boy is officially using the potty like a big boy. He uses washing his hands as an opportunity to play in the water and make a mess. It makes him so happy and who am I to deny him this little bit of happiness. He also uses his hand washing stool to try and unlock the front door to make a getaway. This was during one of his sick days so that's why he looks a little disheveled.
The Boy and I made it up to Oklahoma City a few times to have lunch with the Husband. Man, i would kill for a chopped salad, no bacon, at Iguana right now. It's almost midnight but I'm so hungry!
Made it on over to Bass Pro one day, hoping to see Santa but he wasn't there yet so we watched the fish and talked to the bear. Husband stared at guns and things that go with guns while we wandered around, looking at stuffed animals (real ones) and I facebooked on my phone.
Husband's work Christmas party was nice. The place he found was really cool- an old post office converted into an event venue. The food was really delicious too. They ate steak and the chef made me a special vegetarian dish. That reminds me, we went to a new-ish place in OKC for a friend's birthday dinner last week. The drinks were so amazing, the atmosphere was stunning but- I did not care for my food. I realize there are many chefs who absolutely hate vegetarians, who think it's ridiculous and blah blah blah- but- I can't eat meat. I will get very, very sick. I have been this way since childhood and as much as I would love to have ordered the filet or the lamb burger, I couldn't. So, chef's choice it is. The ingredients were so fresh and flavorful but the problem was- the server recommended a salad- which was very good, but it was the exact same thing as the main dish I had. I don't know, all of my friend's were apologizing to me while stuffing their faces with hearty goodness. Oh, and I guess one of the 11 other people in our party mentioned this to our vegetarian friend who couldn't make it that night= she had apparently gone recently and run into the same problem. I don't mind dropping serious money on an amazing dinner but it def was not worth the twenty-something dollars for my 2 salads. So, I will stick to my usual chef's choice at Michael's and make my way into the bar of the new place. *i know it's not their fault i can't eat meat- it's just frustrating.

I bought this green dress but I'm not sure where I'll wear it. For now it is tucked away in my closet for the right something to pop up. Why can't it be spring already? I would have already worn it.
You may think I'm insane but i'm loving these Lennon Ray-Bans. I didn't buy them. Yet.
More pics of me. To prove I exist.
Our tree is 12 feet tall.
Khazana was also on our list of lunch places. The kiddo didn't eat much except sauces in little containers. Very nutritious, I'm sure. (when he's sickish, he doesn't eat much.)

Husband refers to this tree as the Angel Tree. We found it while driving around Norman a couple of years ago and Husband must find it every year now. I know a lot of people wrap trees in lights, we do it, but this tree is super duper tall so it's a little more amazing than your average tree wrapped in lights.
Meeting Santa was very exciting for the Boy. As we crept closer and closer in the huge line, he would wave at the plastic elves, stuffed reindeer, and Santa. He did not cry, he did not smile. I wonder what he was thinking.
My brother, Will, graduated! He's moving away to go to law school next fall. My sister-in-law, Natalie, also graduated! I'm very proud of both of them. We went to a Happy Graduation lunch for Natalie and a Happy Graduation dinner for Will.

Anna came over last week and hung out with us. She watched the Boy so I could take a shower. THANK YOU, ANNA!
The weekend was fun. We saw a movie on Friday night and got to bed early. Saturday we shopped and went to 2 parties. We were home by a decent time. Today has been lazy. Lots of laying on the couch, aimlessly interneting, snacking, and tv.
(The next 2 photos were taken at MC Jones' house.)

Get your finger out of there, son.
On that note, I wish everyone a happy week.

Adventures with Baby

Yesterday the Boy had a doc appointment to get a booster shot and it was a good thing because he started getting sick on Sunday night. He has croup. He is fine during the day and gets bad at night. He doesn't act sick, not really a runny nose or anything, just this wicked cough and horrible noise when he breathes. It's 9:30am and he's still sleeping. I figured I would let him sleep a little longer than usual so he can get better.
After his appointment, we came home and played in the front yard. He really wanted to throw his football into the basketball goal but never quite made it. When he tries to throw it straight up towards the goal, he just throws it over his head, straight behind him. He runs and laughs and runs back to try again.
It was unusually warm yesterday. A nice day to play in the leaves.
I caught the one attempt that made it forward and not backward. (Imagine a baby tiger roaring as he throws the ball as hard as he can because that's what it sounded like. His little voice is hoarse.)
The Boy heard a kitty in the neighbor's bushes. He pointed and said Meow Meow. Yes, there was a kitty, it was our kitty, Cookie. Cookie won't let you touch him though so he never came out. The Boy tried to climb in the bushes to get that kitty but I wouldn't let him. Sorry, kid.
After we played, we loaded up and headed for OKC. We met Husband for lunch in Bethanny at Abel's. We'd been hearing what a great mexican place it was and it was true. So good. Would have been better if the Boy hadn't insisted on sitting in my lap instead of his highchair. Normally that would not fly with me but since he's sick and had a shot that day- i caved.
After lunch, we ran over to Rink, a flea market-y, vintage-y, antique store place. They have one of everything and you should go if you live around here. I found lots of stuff but really don't have a place to put any of it so i didn't buy anything. My mom would love this place.
I have this exact table except mine is black, not aqua. It was Grandma's.
This doll in a shadow box is weird.
I love typewriters! I wonder if this thing has wifi.
This is a tiny roll-top desk. My MacBook Air would fit so perfectly on it.
This thing really freaked us out. I'm scared of it. A dresser with little ceramic cat head knobs. But why??!! I love antique/vintage shopping. To find the good stuff and the weird, creepy stuff.

Last night the Boy was on the couch with me, winding down, while I was looking at celebrity gossip online. He saw this picture of Jessica Alba and her baby, pointed at Alba and said "Momma" and looked at me. I explained that she was the baby's mommy and he insisted that it was his momma. Why thank you, most sweet child of mine. You always know how to give a compliment.
Below is a self-portrait of the Boy. I let him play with the "self-shot" feature on my camera phone. He was very pleased with himself.
Here's me doing the same thing.

I hear a little boy who wants something to drink. Wonder what adventures we'll have today.

Knock Knock

Hello my darlings. So I've gotten a little lazy in the virtual world but the Boy is growing fast, his vocabulary and his legs in particular, and I can barely keep up with real life stuff like Laundry Mountain. What have we been up to?

Halloween stuff. It was a real hit with the Boy. He was a baby Elvis in a white bejeweled jumpsuit. Husband and I took him to the Fall Festival at The Trails. He cried when we put him in the baby moonbounce, shook his head "no" when we tried to put him on the pony, and tried to climb me to get away from a giant inflatable Incredible Hulk. His likes included looking at the ponies, the lemonade and frito chili pie.

On Friday we bought a new couch! It's the exact color of our previous one but one million times nicer and more comfortable. Getting the carpet cleaned this week, going to paint the walls a brighter white and looking for a new chair. My friend and bandmate, David Drennen, is going to do a large-scale painting and I'm putting it on the wall behind the couch. The Boy will be in the painting and i'm so excited to see what David comes up with. We're also in the process of cleaning out our garage. The pool table will be moved in there and the dining room table will live where it's supposed to live- in the dining room. I can't wait! I cook dinner for my boys almost every day and it would be so nice to sit down together. Yes, Husband, every evening.

Check out the book my bff, Anna, gave to me last night. Apparently he doesn't usually write what people ask him to write but thought Anna was funny so he did! (Though he added the "recipes" bit.) "To Brooke sorry the white people stole your recipes (which is crossed out) land. DS" I love Anna and David Sedaris.

Yesterday we went on a family outing around town. We had lunch at Pepe Delgado's, drove around looking at houses we want to buy when we win the lottery, donated baby clothes to East Main Place, and went to Stash, a little boutique vintage/antique shop on Main Street. I bought the white ring pictured below. I will be going back soon to grab some Christmas presents.

The Boy has made very good friends with Bear Bear. He introduced him to Meow Meow and won't sleep without both of them. He gives them drinks of his juice and puts blankets on them.

Bulletproof Tiger did a little video recording with Casey Friedman for Acoustic Oklahoma and also with Nathan Poppe for a VDub Session for 105.3 The Spy and Fowler VW. They were both fun. You can watch them here: Pick It Up Now That You're Gone In The Red
Cody Tiger recording his solo song for Acoustic Oklahoma.
Bulletproof Tiger show at the Deli.
The Oh Johnny! Girls played on a trailer in the Ghouls Gone Wild Parade for the Girlie Show float. We loved it! So fun. I really hope we get to do it again next year.
Marilyn Artus took the picture below and Roger Meadows took the photo above.
Tornado Timmy and I gearing up to play on a moving vehicle.
Yes, we saw this un-manned cop car and thought- what a good photo opportunity. Notice Bennett's cup of whiskey on the top of the car. And what is Sandy doing with her hand?

This is a photo of Anna and I after we went to the Girlie Show. What a fun night.

What a cute chicken, huh? I love that chicken bee.

The End for now.
